WEEE - The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive
This Directive aims to reduce the amount of Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment being produced and encourages everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it. It also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment.
An astonishing quantity of working PCs and PC bits are just thrown into landfill sites. One current estimate is that, in the UK alone, we throw away over 1,000,000 metric tonnes of EEE waste away every year. That figure is considered to be increasing at between 8 and 10% per year.
This is clearly not a sustainable or desirable situation and amounts to an incredible amount of landfill. Several Wembley stadiums full of landfill.
